UPDATE*** Due to rain, this event has been rescheduled for Sunday November 5th, from 4-7pm.
This semester through University of the Arts Continuing Education, I'm hosting a photography field trip in Center City Philadelphia called "Explorations with Light". The activities are designed for students in my Digital Photo I class, after they've completed coursework in the basics (aperture, shutter, etc.) and have just begun to shoot in Manual Mode. We are opening up slots to public, and participation is free! Registration is required through Ticketleap here.
Activities are scheduled from 5-8pm, and the first part of the evening will be open shooting time as we watch the light change during the "golden hour". I will provide a brief review on shooting in Manual Mode and be available to assist with individual questions and process. After the sun goes down, I will demonstrate "painting with light" techniques and adding basic flash to long exposures at night. Students are encouraged to bring a tripod and small portable light sources (such as a flashlight) to experiment with after the demo.
"Explorations with Light" is one of my favorite class sessions, for its creative potential and the element of surprise in the results. For anyone who needs practice shooting in Manual Mode, this should be a particularly fun evening of taking pictures. This event is a component of the Digital Photography Certificate Program at University of the Arts Continuing Education. I encourage anyone interested in pursuing creative goals through the study of photography to check out this program.
