Rather than have a traditional big wedding, Lauren and Brett decided to buy a house. We met up there so I could document this piece of their lives. When I arrived, Lauren's friend was putting the finishing touches on her makeup.
Meanwhile, Brett was hosting a celebratory tequila shot with Lauren's family. Her parents are visiting from Mexico, where they have their permanent home now.
It was particularly fun meeting some of their pets.
For pictures with immediate family, we took a walk around FDR Park. It was a beautiful warm fall afternoon to spend in the biggest nature oasis of South Philadelphia.
While shooting family formals, a pair of swans fortuitously swam into the frame like a good marriage omen. This group found it quite hilarious.
Their venue was a little old Italian restaurant in South Philly called L'angolo. The place was full of charm, with family style antipasto all'italiano set out to welcome everyone. The space was cozy and warm, which added to the intimacy of the small party.
For the ceremony, Brett and Lauren stood under an archway between two sections of the room housing their respective families. There was no need for an officiant because they obtained a Quaker Marriage License. Brett explained that this detail gave them full control and had meaning, since his family descended from William Penn.
It was an honor to witness and document this day filled with genuine love. There are many more great shots that I'm excited to share as soon as I finish editing. In the meantime, here's to a great couple!
